RUN WITH MT. ZION

at the Detroit Marathon

Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. Hebrews 12:1-2

We are thrilled to announce the 1st annual Mt. Zion Detroit Marathon Invitational on the weekend of October 19-20, 2024! Registration is open to any and all CLC members (Church of the Lutheran Confession) and their friends and family.

Many of Mt. Zion’s members enjoy running for exercise and Scripture often uses running as an illustration for the Christian life. With these things in mind, Mt. Zion’s outreach committee is excited to be organizing this special church event in hopes of encouraging Christian fellowship and promoting the gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Here’s the schedule:

Saturday, October 19 at 4:00pm: Divine Service at Mt. Zion (26689 Northeastern Hwy, Madison Heights)

Sunday, October 20 at 7:00am: Detroit Marathon/Half Marathon (downtown Detroit)

Here’s what you need to do to participate:

1. Sign up at freepmarathon.com (half marathon, full marathon, or relay marathon).

2. Fill out and submit the registration form below.

3. Pray and start training.

4. Start planning your trip to Detroit!

A little more about the race itself:

The Detroit Marathon is run every third Sunday in October in Detroit, Michigan, United States, and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, since 1978. The marathon course is international (Passport, Passport Car, or Enhanced Driver’s License required) and has featured the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel for all but two years of its existence. The current course crosses the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel between Detroit and Windsor. Due to its use of the tunnel, the race is able to boast that it has the only official underwater international mile in the world, as the tunnel runs underneath the Detroit River. The race is a USATF-certified, Boston-qualifier course. The race weekend also features an international half-marathon, a U.S.-Only half-marathon, a relay, a 5K, a 1-mile and a Kids fun run.
